Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; Proverbs 3:5.
A tiny bit of faith reveals God’s eternal trustworthiness.
God’s plans are trustworthy, even when yours are not.
Question: What are the things in life that you believe you can control? What are some things you cannot? How does this affect your day to day decisions?
So he said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? For he has cheated me twice now. He took my birthright, and look, now he has taken my blessing.” Genesis 27:36
Go at once to Paddan-aram, to the house of Bethuel, your mother’s father. Marry one of the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother. Genesis 28:2
The Lord was standing there beside him, saying, “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your offspring the land on which you are lying. 14 Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out toward the west, the east, the north, and the south. All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. Genesis 28:13–15
Then Jacob made a vow: “If God will be with me and watch over me during this journey I’m making, if he provides me with food to eat and clothing to wear, 21 and if I return safely to my father’s family, then the Lord will be my God. Genesis 28:20–21.
Too often we think about what we can GET from a relationship.
God isn’t about what He can get FROM us, but what He wants FOR us.
Remember: you were made for Peace, Community, and Purpose
God wants your life to be a blessing to others.
Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. Genesis 32:24
“What is your name?” the man asked. “Jacob,” he replied. 28 “Your name will no longer be Jacob,” he said. “It will be Israel because you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.” Genesis 32:27–28
Question: Are you planning, or even scheming to control your outcome? Do you believe that God has good plans for you?
Seeing God’s Blessing
God uses the Struggle
2 Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:2–4)
God uses suffering to mature us.
Look for the small blessings
Wrestle with God?
Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God—who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly—and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord, 8 being double-minded and unstable in all his ways., James 1:5–8.
Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2.
God’s plans are trustworthy, even when yours are not.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
Reflection
Pray, “God, what is your will for my life?”
“How should I live out your will from now on?
