The Vow of Purity

The Vow of Purity

The Vow of Priority.
I vow that God will be my first priority and my spouse will be my second.
The Vow of Pursuit.
I vow to always pursue my Two.
The Vow of Partnership.
I vow that my marriage will be about “we” and not “me.”

The Vow of Purity: I vow to confide in you and not hide from you.

Question: Do you think Purity might matter more in a marriage?

It’s difficult to build a life of righteousness on a foundation of sin.

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. 25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. Gen 2:24-25

Adam and Eve are shameless because they are PURE.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves…. Genesis 3:7

But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” Genesis 3:9-10

Secrecy is the enemy of intimacy.
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light— Ephesians 5:8.

(Spiritually forgiven, old habits) Sin and Shame grows best in the dark.
for the fruit of the light consists of all goodness, righteousness, and truth— testing what is pleasing to the Lord. Don’t participate in the fruitless works of darkness, but instead expose them. Ephesians 5:9–11.

“You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:27–28

If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away… Matthew 5:29.
Why resist a temptation the future that you can eliminate today?

Question: Can you name your own temptation? Can you be honest with yourself? Is there a temptation that you hide?

How can we stay pure?
Live according to God’s Word
How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalms 119:9-11

Internalizing God’s Word impacts our life’s choices.
Especially once we have tasted goodness of purity

Confess our sin.
The one who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy. Proverbs 28:13.

We confess our sins to God for Forgiveness.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

We confess our sins to safe brothers and sisters for healing.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. James 5:16.

Church, we are to be children of light - do not walk in the darkness!
Secrecy is the enemy of intimacy!
I vow to confide in you and not hide from you.

Reflection/Prayer
Do I need to place my trust in Jesus?
What do I need to confess to God today?
Jesus, heal my life and my family.
