The direction of your parenting is move your children from dependency on you to dependency on God.
The environment of your parenting is developing healthy relationships.
Intentionally set your kids on the path to a community of faith.
Question: Who are you socially connected to? What do the people you hang out with model in terms of behavior?
I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. Genesis 12:2
So Lot chose the entire plain of the Jordan for himself. Then Lot journeyed eastward, and they separated from each other. Abram lived in the land of Canaan, but Lot lived in the cities on the plain and set up his tent near Sodom. (Now the men of Sodom were evil, sinning immensely against the LORD.) Genesis 13:11-12
Before they went to bed, the men of the city of Sodom, both young and old, the whole population, surrounded the house. 5 They called out to Lot and said, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Send them out to us so we can have sex with them!” Genesis 19:4-5
He said, “Don’t do this evil, my brothers. 8 Look, I’ve got two daughters who haven’t been intimate with a man. I’ll bring them out to you, and you can do whatever you want to them. However, don’t do anything to these men, because they have come under the protection of my roof.” Genesis 19:7-8
Without God and His influence, people value life less and less.
A community that seeks God will value life, because God is the source of life.
Question: Who or what models morality to your kids?
Connecting Kids to Community
1. Be Intentional about presence!
How delightfully good when brothers live together in harmony! Psalm 133:1
2. Be intentional about unity
Now as we have many parts in one body, and all the parts do not have the same function, in the same way we who are many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another. Romans 12:4-5
3. Be Intentional about sharing Christlike love.
And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.
Hebrews 10:24-25
Hope, Healing, and Wholeness doesn’t happen by accident.
Above all, maintain constant love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. 10 Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God. 1 Peter 4:8-10
