I Am The Light Of The World

We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; Isaiah 53:6.

Jesus is the Good Shepherd who leads us to life.

Jesus is the light of the world who guides our way.

Question: Are you afraid of the dark? How about things that are evil that lurk in dark places? How do you deal with those situations?

The Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to lead them on their way during the day and in a pillar of fire to give them light at night, so that they could travel day or night. Exodus 13:21

At dawn he went to the temple again, and all the people were coming to him. He sat down and began to teach them. John 8:2

Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, making her stand in the center. “Teacher,” they said to him, “this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery.  In the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” They asked this to trap him, in order that they might have evidence to accuse him. John 8:3–6.

Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with his finger. John 8:6

When they persisted in questioning him, he stood up and said to them, “The one without sin among you should be the first to throw a stone at her.” John 8:7

When they heard this, they left one by one, starting with the older men. Only he was left, with the woman in the center. John 8:9.

“No one, Lord,” she answered. “Neither do I condemn you,” said Jesus. “Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.” John 8:11

Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12.

Question: Have you ever felt like there was something that you have done that kept you from being forgiven or free?

The Law, the Love, the Light

  1. The Law

For no one will be justified in his sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin comes through the law. Romans 3:20

23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23

The Law reveals our guilt.

  1. The Love

“Neither do I condemn you,” said Jesus. “Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.” John 8:11.

16 For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:17.

For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—Eph 2:8.

The Love reveals God’s Grace.

  1. The Light

“Go, and from now on do not sin anymore. John 8:11.

The Light Reveals our hope.

12 Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”  John 8:12.

I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me would not remain in darkness. John 12:46.

Jesus is the light of the world who guides our way.

Reflection

  • Are there sins that you hide in the dark?
  • Confess them now to Jesus and receive forgiveness and healing to walk in the light of life
