Bold Hospitality

Hospitality: The friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Seek Peace but Be Bold

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment. 2 Timothy 1:7
Our Bold Journey begins with small steps of prayer and love.
To be bold for Jesus, we must be curious about people.
And the Pharisees and scribes were complaining, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Luke 15:2
Being Bold for Jesus requires us to be boldly hospitable.

Question: What are the qualities of a welcoming personality? Does that describe you?

The Lord’s hand was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord. Acts 11:21

News about them reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to travel as far as Antioch. Acts 11:22

Then he went to Tarsus to search for Saul, and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught large numbers, Acts 11:25-26a

Bold Hospitality makes an opportunity.
As they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then after they had fasted, prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them off.
Acts 13:2–3
As usual, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and rise from the dead: “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah.” Acts 17:2–3

When they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city officials, shouting, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here too, and Jason has welcomed them. Acts 17:5–7

Question: Has anyone ever accused you of being “hospitable?” What do you think that means if they have?

Boldly Hospitable
Hospitality is not a subtle invitation to adopt the lifestyle of the host, but the gift of the chance to find his own. – Henri Nouwen

Reflection
What is the risk that I must face to be hospitable?
Who does God want me to welcome into my life, so that they may see Jesus in me?
