Blessed Are Those Who Mourn

Being sad about what we OUGHT to can bring happiness in the future.
Happiness begins when you realize how poor you really are.
A sin that is mourned is not readily committed again.
Question: What is something you did that you regretted and changed the way you made decisions for the rest of your life?
Then he began to teach them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Matthew 5:2-4
We tend to Justify our sin.
But when we see someone else sin, we judge pretty quickly.
David was infuriated with the man and said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who did this deserves to die! 2 Samuel 12:5
When we see our sin in the light of God’s truth, we should mourn.
For I am conscious of my rebellion, and my sin is always before me. Psalm 51:3
Turn your face away from my sins and blot out all my guilt.
God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore the joy of your salvation to me,
and sustain me by giving me a willing spirit. Psalm 51:9–12
A heart that mourns its own sin seeks to BE the kind of person that God can shape and grow.
Question: Have you justified something you did that you knew was wrong? Has that decision cost you in some way? How do you fell about it today?
Mourn to be Happy
1. Own your sin
For I am conscious of my rebellion, and my sin is always before me.

2. Focus on God’s direction
Over your own desires.

3. While you mourn now, sing for joy.
We do not have a God who abandons us.
We have a King who has conquered death.
You, LORD, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit. Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people, praise his holy name. Psalm 30:3–5
The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. You will not despise a broken and humbled heart, God. Psalm 51:16–17
