Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. John 14:13-14
Prayer isn’t about getting what I want.
Prayer is about getting to know God.
Question: What process, if any, do you use to try to understand the Bible? Do you think that it is true?
Reading Scripture
Eisogesis seeks to make the text say what I like.
Exegesis seeks to draw the truth out of the text.
Components of Exegesis.
Understand the context.
Interpret scripture with other scripture
Apply what you learn.
Question: Why would context matter when reading the Bible? Why should we compare what we are reading to other scripture?
What Does Matter!
Your Relationships Matter.
Therefore I tell you, everything you pray and ask for—believe that you have received it and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you your wrongdoing.” Mark 11:24-25
Your Motives Matter
You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. James 4:1
All a person’s ways seem right to him, but the LORD weighs motives. Proverbs 16:2
God's Will Matters.
This is the confidence we have before him: If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:14
Prayer isn’t about getting what I want.
Prayer is about getting to know God.
